Self-Guided Tours

Self-guided tours are available for sale at the gift shops Monday thru Saturday, May thru October. It includes a copy of Kathy's book "Down A Country Road with the Amish" and a map and guide as to where you may take your own tour of the Amish community. The cost of this tour is $25.00. You do not need to call ahead, you can simply pick up the book and tour at the gift shops and be on your way to experience a day in Amish country. No tours of Amish country on Sundays.

Guided Tours

Experience Amish Country near Cashton, Wisconsin. It is Wisconsin's largest Amish community. A Guide will ride with you in your vehicle for approximately one and one half to two hours as you visit the Amish community. You will learn all of the history, traditions and customs of the Amish through the eyes of an experienced tour guide (most likely Kathy, with over 20 years of experience). Enjoy hearing about the customs of courtship and marriage, church services, funeral practices and much more. Kathy will share many heart warming stories of experiences she has had amongst her Amish friends and neighbors.

You will have the chance to meet Amish families as we stop at their farm yards to take a look at the goods they may have for sale. We'll most likely stop at a Bakery or Candy Shop, possibly a quilt shop or wood working shop and who knows what else. Your Wisconsin Amish tour will begin and conclude at our gift shops.

During the 2016 & 2017 season Kathy will offer these tours for $100.00 per family car/van by reservation only from May thru Oct. Tours are available at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tours are not offered everyday, so it is best to make arrangements approximately 2 - 3 weeks in advance if possible. A credit card is required to hold your tour reservation.  Please call 608-654-5318 for availability and reservations. If you are bringing a bus load for a tour, please see our Motorcoach section. We provide Motorcoach step on guide service Monday thru Saturday, May thru October.

If the Open sign is out...come on in!

November and December: open most Fridays & Saturdays in Nov and most Saturdays in Dec depending on the weather. We will not be open if Dec 24th falls on a Saturday. And we are not open on Saturdays after Christmas.

Closed Sundays in respect for the Amish and their wish to conduct no business on the Lord's Day.

As your group arrives you will be greeted with a Welcome and brief information about Down A Country Road and invited to come off the coach to visit the gift shops and farm yard. After approximately 30-45 minutes we will board the bus for the tour through the Amish community.

Your guide will share the rich history of the Amish, dating back to the Anabaptist movement of the fifteen hundreds. You will learn how this heritage has survived many, many generations and thrives today in the midst of the modern world. Satisfy your curiosity as you learn the many traditions and customs of the Amish, including why they dress the way they do, their courtship and marriage practices, what it's like to attend Amish church services in the home and what an Amish funeral is like.

All of these experiences are related through the eyes of your experienced tour guide. We'll make stops at one or more Amish farms, depending on the time you have allotted for the tour. As your group steps back in time they will feel the quiet tranquility of a time gone by.

Down A Country Road has provided Bus tours since 1994 and has had many repeat customers over the years. School Tours

School Tours

Down A Country Road Amish Tours can provide your school group with a down home Amish tour, including a visit to an Amish family. The students will learn the history, traditions and customs of the Amish in a warm hearted environment.

Kathy shares her experiences amongst the Amish with the group, while explaining so many of the interesting things about the Amish lifestyle. A chance to wear an authentic Amish Hat or Bonnet, the chance to hold and cuddle an authentic Amish doll, and Kathy's "story time" with younger children are just a few of the ways that this tour becomes so special.

The tour will also include a stop at the Amish Cheese factory as well as the gift shops at Down A Country Road. You may want to complete the tour with an ice cream cone or sundae from our Country Corner Ice Cream Shoppe.

We also have a Pumpkin patch here on the farm that we invite school groups to visit and pick their own pumpkins, beginning approximately Oct 1st. Call for availability and to schedule a stop. No School Amish tours from Sept 15th thru Oct 15th. We reserve this time for our pumpkin patch tours and other bus tours.
